Determining Causation

Empower students to investigate causal relationships.

As it’s name implies, Because challenges students to determine cause and effect relationships. Educators frame a context for learners to mark up (like adding pins to a map) and to link causal factors (like drawing a line in connect the dots). The context can be an image or a graph which is introduced with a title and associated description or instructions for a group of learners to begin investigating.

Dynamically Collaborating

Simultaneous live-group contributions (like group editing in Google Docs).

Built off the Google Drive API, Because works like group writing on Google Docs, but instead of a word-based document, learners jointly contribute to adding Markers (URLs of info they research on the internet and comments on why they chose it as a causal factor) to a image or graph. All individuals contributions and changes to the group document is reflected in real-time.

SocialPeerBIG

Social, Peer Learning

Interacting with peer collected images and peer reasoning.

Learners form insights through their own contributions as well as seeing Markers that their peers add and link. By collectively finding, comparing, and commenting on causes in relation to the context (effect), students learn from each other.

Educator Authoring

Easily create new lines of questioning through Because Docs.

Because has a basic interface for easily generating new Because docs (which land in your Google Drive) for framing contexts for new learning activities.

Engage Visual Learners

Articulation of understanding through both visual and textual artifacts.

Appealing especially to visual learners, Because poses cause and effect questions through the examination of images, diagrams, and/or graphs.
